I frequently work with individuals who have experienced hurt, shame, or alienation from the Christian church (also called religious trauma, spiritual abuse, adverse religious experiences, or church hurt) and are now sorting through how to make sense of their faith, or lack thereof, in light of their experiences. I also work with folks who are moving through deconstruction of their religious upbringing (or aspects of it such as purity culture) and all of the associated intensity and personal and relational shifts this often brings about.
As someone who grew up in the Christian church, had extensive involvement in church and para-church ministries through young adulthood, and moved through her own deconstruction and reclamation of faith, it’s important that you know that I have no “end goal” or agenda in working with you in navigating spirituality concerns. I partner with you to create a safe space where you are encouraged to be “unfigured-out,” to come to your own conclusions, and always, always have permission to change your mind. My hope is that you feel unhurried, respected, and supported in wherever you land (or don’t land!).
I am a very proud member of the Reclamation Collective, a group of therapists who specialize in holding space for folks impacted by adverse religious experiences. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and intensely cognizant of how the realities of racism, patriarchy, ableism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. are alive and well in many religious communities.
